FOR STRESS RELIEF
Stress is an inherent part of daily life. Stresses
can be caused by negatives like unpleasant confrontations, deadlines, financial pressures, or being overwhelmed
by too much to do in too limited a timeframe. But even the joyous times like wedding planning, moving into your dream house,
and activities accompanying happy holiday seasons can produce stress. It can be negative stress or it can be positive
stress, but it is stress nonetheless. Smart people know a great massage can keep their stress levels down and help them maintain
a healthier happier state of mind and body. There are scientific peer reviewed studies which confirm this.
While the dominant modality of the Nashville neuromuscular Center's Clinical Massage Therapy is scientific
and probem-solving in nature, and our primary focus is on long-lasting functional outcomes, some of our staff do provide simple
deep tissue stress-reduction massage if that is your preference. Be sure to let us know what you are looking for so we can
guide you to the best therapist for your needs.
A stress reduction massage can be the perfect treatment for the work weary, where you can just relax and drift away
in the hands of one of these experienced licensed massage therapists. Please advise your therapist in advance
as to what your goals are for your session. When Life rubs you the wrong way, come see our Massage Therapists for
an educated and effective massage.
A simple Deep tissue massage can be helpful in lessening the
discomfort of tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Unlike classic
Swedish massage therapy, deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscular tension and connective
Some of the issues we can help with through simple deep tissue massage are:
- chronic pain
- muscle tension or spasm
- limited range or
- recovery from injuries
- Prevention of injuries
- Osteoarhritis pain
When there is chronic muscle tension there are usually
fascial adhesions an/or tight bands of painful, rigid tissue in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Deep tissue massage works
by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
to the August 2005 issue of Consumer Reports magazine, 34,000 people ranked deep tissue massage techniques
in the hands of a skilled massage therapist more effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain than physical
therapy, prescription medications, chiropractic, acupuncture, diet, glucosamine and over-the-counter drugs.
Let me be clear here that Deep Tissue Massage does not have to be painfully deep
pressure. It is more about specificity. When the Nashville Neuromuscular Center's massage therapist is on
the precise tissue, they will not need to use dramatic force to coerce the desired muscle/myofascial response.
Yes, the massage therapist will be affecting the deep tissue, but not necessarily with uncomfortably
deep pressure. Remember YOU are in charge of the pressure in any massage and should direct your therapist accordingly.
And please understand that simple deep tissue massage is NOT the same as Clinical Bodywork,
Myofascial or Neuromuscular Therapy. These more clinical approaches may incorporate some deep tissue techniques but involve
a much more complex and thorough neuro-myo-fascial-skeletal perspecitive, intention, and training.
